Updated BMW M2 Leaked, 911 GT3 Nordschleife Time, Elon Musk on the 2019 Tesla Model Y Crossover!5/4/2017 Sorry, but I do not have the time to write out a full post today! Here is the news!
The Belgian BMW site accidentally revealed the new M2 facelift on their website! The all new Porsche 911 GT3 ran a lap around the Nordschleife in 12.3 seconds less than the previous generation! Elon Musk revealed that the Model Y should roll around near 2019 and 2020! The Sesto Elemento is an amazing car. It weighs under 1000 kilograms (just barely at 999) and produces 570 hp from the Gallardo's V10. The power goes to all of the wheels via a six speed dual clutch transmission. This gives way to a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds! So, why would someone sell it? Well, someone was crazy enough to put theirs on sale for a asking price of $2.6 million dollars. The car is located in Dubai, UAE, and is being sold on James Edition. Here it is. So, if you have around three million dollars to throw away, this is a good way to spend it!
Recently, we saw the Porsche 918 back at the Nurburgring, running some hot laps. There is nothing wrong with that. The question everyone's asking is why? Why is this 918 back again running laps if it already set it's lap time? Road and Track asked Porsche about it, and they told them that the 918 is being tested to be a benchmark if you will, for an undisclosed vehicle. Could this be a new hypercar from Porsche? Or is it simply for a normal Porsche model? The following are a few possibilities listed by Motor Authority. The first possibility is that they are trying to see how the 918 Spyder compares to the new Panamera Turbo S-E Hybrid, which makes a staggering 680 hp. Another idea is maybe they are using the 918's parts and innovations in the 2019 Porsche 911, which I showed spy shots of a month ago. The ideas that were new in the 918 could possibly trickle down into the 911 for 2019. There is one more possibility, but it's a bit weird. Is Porsche sending the 918 down the ring again to possibly retake the crown back from the Lamborghini Huracan Performante? If so, it's got a long way to go. As a matter of fact, it needs to somehow make up around five seconds at the least to beat the Performante! But, I will leave room for it as as it is definitely a possibility. Check out these new spy shots of the upcoming Ford Shelby GT500! Ford has really been quiet in the muscle car business for the past few years. That is possibly the cause of the Ford GT. But finally, it seems that the Hellcat and ZL! will meet their match with the GT500! Finally, there is a Mercedes Benz CLK GTR up for sale on James Edition. It is up for approximately $2.7 million dollars, even though it only costed around $2.2 million when it was being sold. Check it out!
Lazante is the lucky company who gets to help Mclaren build the P1 LM. Remember that this is the same company that helped Mclaren build the F1 LM, which dominated in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. They transformed five Mclaren P1s over the past year, and one was spotted on the Nurburgring a week ago. The 986 hp beast was racing down the Ring quite hard, and you can see some parts where it scraped the ground. Lazante tested it in it's development phase, but has not yet revealed the numbers it achieved. All this only leads to one possible solution. They have to be going for the record on the ring for street legal cars. This means that they will have to beat the 6:48:28 that is held by the Radical SR8 LM. This will be amazing to hear about! In addition, this could give us an idea of the time the normal P1 did on the Nurburgring! Sergio Marchionne talked to Autocar a few days and confirmed that Ferrari will not turbocharge their V12s. They will keep them naturally aspirated. However, he also revealed that most V12's from now on may have hybrid support. The Laferrari seems to have began the hybrid line as Ferrari will turn to mostly hybrid cars from now on. It's all good Ferrari fans, the V12 is safe... for now!
I am sorry that I couldn't write a Weekend Rivals for the past few weeks. I have had to prepare for by final tests of the year, and there was only room for study, study, study! Anyway, here is one classic rivalry! The amazing Porsche 959 had a 3.0L turbocharged flat six, producing around 450 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. The power was sent to all four wheels via a six speed manual transmission. It pushed 3,197 pounds from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, and could do the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds at 120 mph. In addition, it could reach a top speed of 199 mph, knocking on the door of 200. There were a total of 300 production models built. In all, there were 337 959's... that is, if you include the 37 pre production prototypes. At the time at which is was being sold, it costed around $250,000. Sports Car International named it one of the greatest, and most technologically advanced cars of the 80's. There was one other car that was on that list too. It would learn to rival the 959. And that, is the classic Ferrari F40! Is anyone else seeing a 288 GTO from this angle? Anyway, the F40 has a 2.9L twin turbocharged V8 producing 471 hp. However, there are reports that it actually made over 500 horsepower! The power was sent to the rear wheels via a five speed manual. The last Ferrari personally approved by Enzo himself weighed 3,018 pounds and could hit 60 mph from 0 in 4.2 seconds. It was a bit slower in the quarter mile at 12.1 seconds at a faster speed of 122 mph. This was reportedly the first production car to hit 200 mph, but many tests say 199 mph, like that of the Porsche. Only around 30 were built, and each costed $400,000 in 1987. All right. Here are my choices. In looks, the Ferrari is just more demonic and more scary to look at. In performance, the Porsche has it, because it is faster from 0-60 and in the quarter mile, all while makes less hp and weighing more! Heritage is a hard one! Ferrari and Porsche both have a lot of heritage! I think the Ferrari takes it, because of all of those races, and wins! As for fun, even though you can drift the F40, the damn flat six has a lot of car enthusiasts mesmerized for years! Well, it's a tie again! And this means that I have to resort to the price, which will definitely give us one decisive winner. The Ferrari costed $400,000 at the time it was sold, and the Porsche costed $250,000 at that time. This means that the Porsche 959 is our champ for this weekend!
The Ferrari 488 is a world class supercar. It leads the segment in fun, speed, and power. With the news of a Porsche 911 GT2 coming out, it has been challenged. That's why Ferrari needs a better 488. Just as the Speciale was for the 458, and GTO name will be revived to be that for the 488! The picture above is a spy shot of the 488 GTO, which is likely coming out to show Porsche it's place. It will probably come with a dose of steroids, as it will have more horsepower, better chassis and transmission, and a lot of weight reduction. The 488 already produces 661 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque from its 3.9L twin turbo V8. The GTO should break the 700 hp and 600 lb-ft mark. The GTO should go through weight saving measures like those done for the 458 Speciale, including removing some interior components like the sound system. This will all be replaced with carbon-fiber pieces, thin glass, and lighter wheels and brakes. Autocar says that the weight savings and additional power should wield a 2.7 second 0-60 time for the GTO. They also claim that the GTO should receive Ferrari's Side Slip Angle Control and more aerodynamics. The price should be more than $275,000, which is the base price of the 488 Spider. Ferrari has not commented on this model, but the spy shots seem to prove that something 488 is coming our way! These renderings basically show a 488 GTB mixed with a 458 Speciale, in order to render what the new 488 GTO should be like! The renderings show the extra aero, including new side skirts and revised rear bumpers. In addition, the rendering keeps the simple 458 Speciale colors!
We saw a few teaser trailers for Cars 3 a month ago, but we really haven't heard much since. Well today, Disney-Pixar released the Official Trailer for Cars 3! It includes some new scenes, and the result of that fatal crash we saw in the first teasers! I won't talk much, because you guys really should watch this! Nissan will reportedly expand their NISMO brand, and will add new models and sending them to newer markets. With adding these new models, they hope to increase sales of NISMO models, which currently sits at 15,000 units per year. As of now, there have been three NISMO models that we know of. The Juke NISMO, the GT-R Nismo, and the newly revealed 2017 Sentra NISMO. I personally hope they add a 370Z NISMO! I love the 370Z and would really love to see a NISMO variant for it! Volkswagen revealed the new Golf R in a video today. The new package adds air curtains, a new rear spoiler creating more downforce, some new brakes, and an titanium exhaust. Also, the package disables the speed limiter, allowing the Golf R reach 166 mph. The U.S. spec will keep the 292 hp 2.0L turbo 4 while the European spec gets 306 hp from the same engine. However, the U.S. spec does get something the Euro spec doesn't; a seven speed twin clutch automatic gearbox along with the six speed manual. The new Golf family gets revised exterior, including headlights which mimic those of Audi's, which is the luxury brand of Volkswagen. Volkswagen also owns many exotic car companies, like Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Bentley, and you can see their respective influences on the new Golf. Sadly, this package will only be allowed for the Euro spec. Disappointing. Anyway, take it easy, and until next time, peace!
Yes, that is right. A personal favorite and popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will reportedly retire at the end of the 2017 season! He told this to his group of people today!
